Operation Market Garden, a huge airborne/ground operation in World War Two devised by General Montgomery. It was one of those grand strategic strokes that seem to exist merely to fail. Three airborne divisions were dropped far behind enemy lines. Their objective: to sieze vital bridges that would allow the ground forces to push through to Germany.
